"I lift my eyes to the mountains; from where will my help come?
My help comes from the Lord, maker of heaven and earth."
This classic setting of Psalm 121 is by Charles Garland Verrinder, organist of the West London Synagogue during the late 19th century. Though Verrinder was a practicing Anglican, he composed a number of pieces for the synagogue, Esa Einai being his most famous. I don't believe it was written for any particular occasion, but it is a favourite at Remembrance Day services and has inevitably developed a strong association.
