Amongst the very large number of musical settings for Yigdal, there are three characteristic melodies for each of the Shalosh Regalim, which go back to Dukes Place in the late 1700s. They may be even older than this, having been brought over from North Germany or Bohemia. Arguably the best and most well known of the three is this fabulous melody for Pesach. Sadly it is sung now only in a handful of congregations, with many opting to use Saqui's melody instead for all three festivals, and others not changing from Leoni's familiar Shabbat tune. For the final line of Yigdal which speaks of the resurrection of the dead, the music slows down and enters a minor key, before triumphantly concluding "Blessed forever is His praised name". Truly a glorious way to complete the festival evening service.
